How Can I Make My Air Conditioner More Efficient in Summer in Centennial Hills, NV? Keep AC Unit Clean & More

When you’re experiencing the repressive heat of a Las Vegas summer, the last thing that you want to experience is that same summer with an AC that isn’t working properly. Your AC system is heaven sent during these dog days of summer. It is important that you don’t forget to maintain your system to ensure that it will continue to do the grunt work involved to keep you as cool as possible this summer. Hal Mechanical is here to share some summer maintenance tips that you need to be doing to keep your AC working efficiently this summer.

Keep Condenser Clean & Clear

If you don’t know a lot about your AC unit, you may not realize how important it is to keep the condenser clean. This is the large fan that is found inside your outdoor unit. The fan blades need to be kept clean and clear of any debris or it can negatively impact your AC’s efficiency. In fact, you can see an increase on your energy bill of up to 30% if you aren’t keeping this part of your unit maintained properly. If the fan blades are looking particularly dirty, you need to gently wipe them off. Remove any debris that you find in there as well.

Check AC Refrigerant Level

The refrigerant in your AC unit is something to keep an eye on as well. When your unit is starting to get older, you may find that it starts to leak refrigerant. This is what works to cool the air in your home. Since your AC unit is a closed system, the only way that you could start to run low on refrigerant is if there is a leak somewhere. To check this, find the copper pipe in the outdoor unit and touch it. The pipe should be cold. If it isn’t or it is sweating, this could be a sign that there is a problem with your refrigerant levels.

Ensure Air Vent is Open & Unobstructed

Many people don’t check inside the vents of their home often enough either. When you have vents on the floor in your home, it can be easy to drop things in them. Take the vents covers off of the vents in your home and make sure that there is no debris there. You will want to vacuum them out and remove as many allergens as you can too. This can help to reduce allergy symptoms.

Change Air Filter

You probably already know this, but you need to change the filter in your AC system regularly as well. Without proper airflow, your AC unit isn’t going to be able to work properly. Replacing the filter can help save you headaches later.
