Heat Exchanger

The heat exchanger is used to transfer heat from combustion to the air. This will then circulate through the home. If you have any damage, such as cracks, this can cause combustion fumes to accumulate, making your furnace less efficient and the cost can increase the energy conception. If you have a cracked heat exchanger, you may be smelling an unpleasant odor when your furnace runs and your home will seem dirtier, because it releases more soot in the air.

Pilot Light Needs Repairs

Pilot lights are used in combustion furnaces to provide the flame to light the burners. If your pilot light is having problems and needs to be repaired, it won’t light the flame and you won’t get heat for your home. You may notice something is going on with your pilot light if you are having a lack of heat in your home or you can see that the light is out. In many cases, the pilot light issue is because of buildup on the assembly or with the thermal couple. The thermocouple regulates the flow of gas.

Short-Cycling Furnace

Your furnace may be overcycling or turning on and shutting off too quickly. This is not good for your furnace. This could be happening because of clogged air filters, improper airflow, or your furnace being too high or too low. You want to fix whatever reason it is because if you let your furnace continue to short-cycle, it can result in higher power bills.
