Why is My Heater Making Weird Hissing or Booming Noises … or No Sound in Whitney, NV?

When your heater turns on you may hear some sounds like a clicking sound. You may hear the heater running and the air running in your home. But there are some sounds that are not good to be hearing when your heater turns on. Hal Mechanical wants to go over what some of the sounds are in case you have one of the sounds happening to your heater then you will need to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Rattling Heating Sounds

If you are hearing a rattling sound coming from your heater then this is a good indication that there is something loose in your heating system. When something is loose it often sounds like something is moving inside your system and that usually is exactly what is happening that is why you hear the rattling sound.

Hissing Furnace Noises

If you are hearing a hissing sound, this is never good. This is not something you want to be hearing when your heat is on. If you have a furnace that is making a hissing sound it could be that you have a gas leak. If you have a heat pump it could mean you have a leak in your refrigerant line. Either way, if you are hearing a hissing sound you need to shut off your system and call a professional for help.

Booming Heater Sounds

When you hear a booming sound it could be because you have an oversized system for either your heat pump or furnace. If your system is too big then you may hear a booming sound because it is putting strain on the ductwork or it is making a delay when it tries to ignite.

Shrieking Sounds from Furnace

When your heater turns on and you hear a shrieking sound or even a sound like a high-pitched scream when something is wrong. It could be that there is a loose fan belt that keeps hitting or that you have a dry motor belt. Most likely when you hear a shrieking sound it is because metal is scraping against another piece of metal. When you hear this call a professional for help.

No Sound from Heating System

No sound coming from your furnace is ever a good sound. Most likely if there is no sound coming from your furnace when it clicks on or when it is running, then that is a good indicator that your furnace is not working. If you are not hearing any sounds call a professional to come to check it out. They may be able to repair and fix it or you may have to replace it depending on what is wrong with it.
