How Do You Switch from AC to Heat?
No matter where you live, spring can bring on hot and cold days. Some days you think it is warm enough to turn your AC on but then the weather changes again and you are back to needing heat. So, can you switch from AC to heat? The answer is yes. You can switch from heat to AC and vice Versa. But you want to make sure that you are doing it correctly. You do not want to wear out your equipment and have things break down because you are not doing it correctly.
Best Way to Switch to Cooling
When you go to switch your heat to AC or AC to heat you must let the current cycle finish. If you have your AC on, you want to let the cycle finish before turning off and turning on your heat. Make sure that your thermostat is set to auto not on. When the cycle has completed then turn the thermostat off and make sure you wait for five minutes. Once the five minutes is up then you can change the AC to heat. You need to remember that you have to wait 5 minutes. This gives the refrigerant time to return back to its starting pressure. If you do not wait, then the pressure will be too high and could end up causing the compressor to lock up. If this happens it could lead to a tripped breaker or a blown fuse and cause problems with your system.
Avoid Drastic Temperature Changes
When you are switching from heating to cooling you want to slowly raise or lower the temperature. You do not want to do drastic temperature changes. If you are doing drastic temperature changes from hot to cold then that could put a lot of wear and tear on your system. Your system is already going through a lot by changing from hot to cold so do not put more pressure on it.
