Only to repeat its cycle from here, the gas refrigerant returns to the condenser. Without the evaporator within the air conditioner unit, it would be impossible for your air conditioning system to cool the air in your home. By changing the refrigerant into its gas form, the evaporator allows the refrigerant to absorb the heat within your home.

How Often Should AC Evaporator Coils Be Cleaned?

It is important to remember that your evaporator works very hard to keep your home cool, so it is frequently required to have a bit of maintenance to run smoothly. The first step is keeping the evaporator clean because the coils can trap dirt which will then prevent the absorption of heat. This should be done throughout the year, even in winter. When the moisture evaporator freezes the efficiency is limited.

What Happens when an AC Evaporator Becomes Dirty or Blocked?

1) Cold Air is not Being Produced by AC system. One of the first symptoms of a potential problem with the evaporator is not having cool air. 2) AC Temperature is Fluctuating. An issue with the evaporator is often indicated with fluctuating temperatures from the AC system. The temperature may suddenly alternate between cold and warm, resulting in additional strain on the compressor, and consistently less cool cabin temperatures.
3) Inactive AC Compressor. When an AC compressor that won’t activate is a possible problem with the evaporator temperature sensor. The performance of the air conditioner unit is affected by the condition of the compressor should the evaporator fail.
