How Do You Troubleshoot an AC Unit in Desert Shores, NV? Clearance Around Condenser, Thermostat & More

No one has time for a failing AC when you live in Las Vegas during the summertime. The high heat can be brutal, and the only way to survive it is with a well-working AC system. When your AC isn’t working the way that it should, there are a few things that you can try prior to calling in the pros to help you. Hal Mechanical is here to talk about some troubleshooting that may help you fix the AC problem you’re dealing with on your own.

Why is My AC Running But Not Cooling?

There are a few general things that you need to look over when your AC isn’t working. Here are a few places that you should start as you give your entire system a good once over.
– Thermostat: The very first place you should look when you’re having AC problems is your thermostat. You don’t know if it got messed with and is turned off on accident. Make sure your fan function is on as well. If you have a smart thermostat, you may benefit from completely a reset to see if that solves your problem.
– AC Condenser Unit: The condenser unit is found on the outside unit. You will need to make sure there aren’t any leaves or other debris that are clogging the airflow around your unit. This can cause overheating that will lead to an AC that isn’t working at all. Make sure there aren’t any sounds that aren’t adding up. You also need to make sure there is warm air that is coming from the top of the unit. If you hear anything that doesn’t sound right, it’s time to call in the pros because you may have a loose or broken part.
– Ventilation: You will now need to head inside your home to look at the ventilation. Make sure all of the vents in your home are open and ready to blow cool air from them. Move any furniture that could be blocking the airflow.
– Refrigerant Line: If the thermostat is on and the vents are all unobstructed, you may have a problem with your refrigerant line. You should look for any leak, tears or problems with your refrigerant line. Without refrigerant, your AC system can’t cool your house down. If you hear any hissing sounds, it is a good sign that the refrigerant line is the problem, and you have a leak somewhere. If this is the case, you are more than likely going to need professional help to move forward and restore your cooling system.
