How Do I Prepare My AC Unit for Spring in Sunrise Manor, NV? Air Conditioner Tune Up & More

With the beginning of spring there is a lot to do before the major heat of the summer season begins. Spring time is the best time of year to be outside and to do all those chores you have been putting off all winter. Spring is also the best time of the year to give your air conditioning system some attention. During the spring you will want to take the time to prepare your air conditioner for the summer months. The spring season is the time of year we switch from our heating system to our air conditioners. Before you expect a lot of work from your air conditioner, you will want to help it run as efficiently as possible. Hal Mechanical would like to share what the homeowner can do to help their air conditioner, and why you should schedule an air conditioning tune-up this spring.

Homeowner AC Maintenance Checklist

The homeowner’s role when it comes to preparing the air conditioner, is rather small. However, it doesn’t mean those tasks are not important because they are. During the spring a homeowner should do the following:
• Change Air Filters – It helps to change out the air filters now to make sure they are clean and allow plenty of air flow. However, air filters should be monitored and changed out every 1 to 3 months.
• Clean Air Vents & Registers – The air vents and registers need to be cleaned for a few reasons. One, there is less dust blowing into your home. Another reason is that you will want to allow sufficient air flow. While cleaning the air vents, make sure the grills are open all the way even in areas you don’t use or feel need much A/C. It only causes problems if you close the air vents in any room.
• Clean Around Outdoor Unit – You will need to make sure the outdoor unit is clean and has plenty of air circulation. Weeds or tall grass can restrict air circulation and affect your cooling system. Make sure there is no debris or trash around the outdoor unit for better efficiency and a healthier unit.

Air Conditioning Tune-Up

After the homeowner has done their part, the next essential step is to schedule to have the air conditioner tuned-up. An air conditioner tune-up is basically a major part of maintaining your air conditioner. During an air conditioner tune-up an HVAC technician will come and do a thorough inspection of your air conditioning system. Along with an inspection, the air conditioner is cleaned and all moving parts are lubricated. The evaporator and condenser coils are cleaned to ensure proper cooling. The blower is cleaned out making sure there is no dust caught in the fan blades. The electrical wiring and devices are checked. During an air conditioning tune-up the HVAC technician is looking for any worn down components that may need to be repaired or replaced. If a worn down or broken component is discovered, the technician will let the homeowner know. The homeowner can decide to have the part repaired now, before the major heat begins. By having your air conditioner tuned-up in the spring you can repair any potential problem, improve your air conditioner’s energy efficiency, and extend the life of your unit.
