How Do I Fix My Heat Not Working in My House in Tuscany Village, NV? Call Us for Furnace Repair!

It is the middle of winter in Las Vegas, while it doesn’t get as cold as other places in the world it still can get cold that you want your heater on. If your heater has stopped working, you need to figure out what is going on. There are a few things you can do yourself to check why your heater is not working before you call a professional. Hal Mechanical offers helpful tips below.

Check Thermostat

If your heating system has stopped working, the first thing you want to do is go over to the thermostat and check it. It may not be turning on because of something as simple as the battery has died. If your thermostat is hardwired then it may be that there was a brief power outage or power surge. That could cause your thermostat to reset and lose its settings. If you have a smart thermostat, you may have to re-connect it to Wi-Fi. If it is still not connecting then you may need to replace your thermostat. We recommend going with a smart thermostat for the convenience and to save you money.

Reset Tripped Circuit Breakers

If your thermostat is working just fine, then you want to check your circuit breaker. Your heating system is on its own circuit. If your breaker is tripped, then reset your breaker and try to turn on your heating system. If the breaker tripped again after you have reset it and restarted your system, then you know you need a repair. If the breaker is fine then move on and check a few more things.

Change Dirty Air Filters

Make sure you check your filters. If the filters become too dirty it will block the airflow, causing your system to possibly overheat or trip the breaker making your heating system stop working. If you have not changed your air filter within the last few months you will want to do so and see if that is the problem. Filters should be changed every one to three months.

Open Closed Vents

Go around and check your air vents. If any of these are blocked or closed, it can cause your heating system to shut down. You do not want your vents closed. It does not save you any money. It actually makes it harder on your system when you have a vent that is closed.

Relight Pilot Light if Out

With a furnace, it will only work if the pilot light ignites and turns on. If the pilot light is out because it is faulty or dirty, it will not ignite, causing your heat to malfunction. You may just need to relight a pilot light. If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, call a professional to come help you.

Confirm Gas is On

If your furnace is run by gas and you are not getting any heat, it could be that your furnace is not getting the gas it needs. Make sure that the valve for the gas supply is on. You can look at an owner’s manual or look up the manufacturer’s website to find where this valve is. Once again, if you do not feel comfortable call a professional for help.
