If you are like most people, you moan a little when you realize it’s time to replace your old furnace. This is a big purchase that can pop up unexpectedly. The key to choosing the right furnace for your home is to educate yourself on what you need to look for in a new furnace. There are several different considerations that you need to make to ensure you are picking the right one for your home and its needs. Hal Mechanical is here to talk about some of the things you need to be looking for in a new furnace.
Furnace Size
Size definitely matters when it comes to the furnace in your home. It needs to be the perfect fit to get everything you want out of it. A furnace that is too small, won’t be able to keep up with your heating needs. A furnace that is too large will be short cycling which ends up costing you more and is harder on your furnace.
Furnace Blower
You have three different types of blower technology to choose from in your new furnace: standard, constant torque, or variable speed. The blower is important because it uses a significant amount of energy to circulate the air throughout your home. If you are looking for the most efficient, it is probably the variable speed motor.
Heating Efficiency
It won’t be hard to get a bump in energy efficiency when you’re replacing an old furnace. You want to look at the AFUE rating. The higher the rating, the more efficient the furnace is going to be. 80 is the lowest AFUE rating you will find, and 98 is the highest option and most efficient. The efficiency of your furnace will make a big difference in your heating costs.
Furnace Warranty
The warranty on your new furnace is something that you will want to look at as well. At the very least, you want to make sure the heat exchanger and the main components are covered. The heat exchanger is going to be the most expensive thing on your furnace to replace, so you want to make sure that is covered.
Cost of Heater
Everyone is going to be concerned about the cost of the new furnace. You want to make sure you aren’t choosing your furnace solely on the cost though. There are some things that are worth paying for. Consider paying a little more for things like energy efficiency and a good blower motor as these will end up saving you money throughout the life of the furnace.
