When you start to feel too warm in your home and turn on the AC to get the relief you need, only to find that it isn’t working to properly cool down your home; it can be frustrating. There are a number of different problems that can arise during the summer with your AC. However, if your AC sounds like it is running and the house isn’t cooling off, there are certain issues that might be the cause. Hal Mechanical is here to talk about some of the reasons you might be experiencing this issue.
Why is My AC Running But Not Cooling?
If you are experiencing an AC that is working, but not cooling your home down, it could be several different issues that are the cause. Here are some of the most common problems that can lead to this struggle:
– Thermostat Issues: If you have an older thermostat, it could be the cause of your problem. The first thing that any homeowner will want to do is to check the settings on the thermostat to make sure it is switched over to the cooling function. However, it could be a problem if your thermostat is no longer able to accurately read the temperature of your home. It could cause your home to stay much warmer than you would like.
– Dirty Filter: The filter in your unit is essential to it working properly as well. Air flow is what keeps the coolant freely flowing throughout the unit. If there isn’t any airflow due to a dirty filter, you need to replace it right away. You should be checking your filter on a regular basis and changing it as needed to keep your unit working properly. A dirty filter can even cause your unit to not work as efficiently as a clean filter will too.
– Broken AC Fan: When you’re dealing with a broken fan, your AC compressor might still be working but the cold air isn’t circulating throughout your house. If this is the case, you need to check the fan switch first to make sure it is in the on position. This should be located on an outside wall near the air handler.
– AC Wiring Issues: Another problem that could cause your AC to turn on but your home to fail to cool down has to do with the wiring to and from the thermostat and the unit. If there is a problem with these wires and they are faulty, it can lead to improper cooling. Some people have a hard time checking this on their own and end up turning to a professional to come take a look at it.
