Why Does My AC Stay On all the Time in Silverado Ranch, NV? AC Unit Fan Switch at Manual & More

If you are faced with an AC that won’t turn on at all or one that simply never turns off, chances are, you are going to choose the later problem. However, the cost of cooling is no joke. Most people can’t afford for their AC to be on around the clock. If you have an AC that is seemingly running around the clock, you might be wondering what can be done to fix it. Hal Mechanical is here to talk about some of the most common causes of an AC that won’t turn off.

Common Reasons Why Your AC Won’t Turn Off

There are several reasons why you might be experiencing an AC system that simply isn’t shutting off after running through a full cooling cycle.
– Thermostat Problems: The first place that you should look when you have this issue come up is the thermostat. You might have some adjustments that need to be made in regard to the temperature your thermostat is set at. It might be helpful to turn it up a degree or two. You might have a thermostat that is broken as well. It might need a recalibration.
– AC Fan Switch: You want to make sure that the fan switch isn’t set at manual on the AC unit. There is a switch that is located near the blower than can get switched to manual which will mean that air is constantly blowing even if it isn’t actively working to cool off your house.
– Stuck AC Contactor: The part of your AC unit that controls the flow of electricity to it is called the contactor. This is a part that can wear out as your unit ages and often needs to be replaced if it gets stuck. If it can’t interrupt the flow of electricity to the unit, the unit will continuously run.
– Poorly Placed Thermostat: You don’t want your thermostat to be placed in an area that is particularly warm. This will cause it to struggle to accurately read the temperature of a room. If the thermostat is somewhere that is in direct sunlight, next to certain appliances, or is near the attic hatch, it could be inaccurately reading the temperature of your home. If your thermostat is in an area like these that we’ve mentioned, it might be time to rethink its placement and put it somewhere that makes more sense. This will give you a more accurate temperature reading and help your AC system more efficiently cool your house.
